Netra will be deeply committed to the time tested traditions of teaching, practice and performance. The Academy is committed to excellence in the teaching, practise and performance of the traditional style of Bharthanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam. | |
| Bharathanatyam: Bharatanatyam is one of seven classical dance styles, and said to be one of the oldest existing traditional Indian dances.Bharatanatyam is considered to be a fire-dance — the mystic manifestation of the metaphysical element of fire in the human body. | |
| Mohiniattam: Mohiniyattam is a traditional South
Indian dance from Kerala. It is a very graceful dance meant to be performed as a
solo recital by women. The term Mohiniyattam comes from the words "Mohini"
meaning a woman who enchants onlookers and "aattam" meaning graceful and
sensuous body movements. The lyrics are in Manipravalam, a mixture of Sanskrit
and Malayalam. The Mohiniyattam dance is performed to this accompaniment by the
subtle gestures and footwork of the danseuse. The performer uses the eyes in a
very coy yet sensual manner, the purpose being to enchant the mind without
enticing the senses. |
|
| Kuchipudi: Kuchipudi is a Classical Indian dance form from Andhra Pradesh, a state of South India. The movements in Kuchipudi are quicksilver and scintillating, rounded and fleet-footed. Performed to classical Carnatic music, it shares many common elements with Bharatanatyam. In its solo exposition Kuchipudi numbers include 'jatiswaram' and 'tillana' whereas in nritya it has several lyrical compositions reflecting the desire of a devotee to merge with God - symbolically the union of the soul with the super soul. | |
| Bollywood and Fusion Dance: An excellent way to get a workout and enjoy the music, moves and exhilaration of Bollywood dancing to original Bollywood music. Steps are basic and low impact, and have been modified for general fitness level from the original high-energy style of Bollywood dance. Bollywood dance is taught in Netra for fun, exercise, fitness and also to promote a feeling of light-hearted fun, entertainment and social togetherness. | |
| Carnatic Music: The ability to express thoughts through sounds has evolved into an art which we call music. Music can thus be defined as an art form that arranges sounds in a fashion that follows certain natural principles and provides that special inner feeling of happiness and contentment. The purpose of this ring is to link all web sites devoted to Carnatic - South Indian Classical Music. Carnatic music emphasizes the voice and singing, which may be accompanied by the instruments of the region, including tambura, violin, mridangam, and veena. Veena will also be taught in the Center. | |
| Painting: Painting is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a surface (support base). In art, the term describes both the act and the result, which is called a painting. Color and tone are the essence of painting as pitch and rhythm are of music. Color is highly subjective, but has observable psychological effects, although these can differ from one culture to the next. Rhythm is important in painting as well as in music. Rhythm is basically a pause incorporated into a body (sequence). This pause allows creative force to intervene and add new creations—form, melody, coloration. | |
